Heritage Committee

The Committee ensures the strategic oversight, conservation, and development of the College’s heritage collections, archives, and Playfair building.

The Heritage Committee guides the strategic management, development, and preservation of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh’s heritage assets. These includes the remarkable collections and resources within the Library, Archive, and Surgeons' Hall Museums, as well as the iconic Category A-listed Playfair building.
 
The Committee aims to broaden access to the heritage collections, enhance audience engagement,  increase research impact, and ensure the long-term preservation and active use of the Playfair building. The Committee strives to connect diverse local and global audiences with the College's rich heritage.

Miss Amanda McCabe

Heritage Committee Chair

Miss Amanda McCabe FRCS (paeds) is a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon for 13 years, based at Ninewells Hospital Dundee and Royal Hospital for Children and Young Adults, Edinburgh.

Professor John Duncan

Heritage Committee Member

John, a former vascular surgeon in Inverness, led aortic aneurysm screening in Scotland and later headed teaching for Aberdeen University. An OBE recipient, he served 11 years on the College Council and is now writing a modern history of the College.

Professor Farhat Din

Heritage Committee Member

Professor Farhat Din is a Senior Lecturer with The University of Edinburgh. Her research focuses on colorectal cancer prevention.

Professor Robin Paton

Heritage Committee Member

Professor Robin Paton is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon (with a special interest in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery) and was first elected to the council in 2016.

Professor Grant T McIntyre

Heritage Committee Member

Professor Grant T McIntyre is an NHS Consultant and Honorary Professor in Orthodontics and Joint Clinical Director at Dundee Dental Research Hospital & School.

Miss Jana Bartschova

Heritage Committee Lay Member

Jana, an Associate Project Manager and Chartered Building Surveyor, has extensive experience with heritage clients across England and Scotland. She manages complex conservation projects for A and B listed buildings and is a trustee of the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust.

Miss Eilidh Henderson

Heritage Committee Lay Member

Eilidh, a Director at Page\Park Architects, has 21+ years of experience in heritage estates projects, including Fyvie Castle and the National Mining Museum. With expertise in strategy, sustainability, and community engagement, she is a valuable addition to the Heritage Committee.

Mr Daniel Martin

Heritage Committee Lay Member

Daniel, Associate Director at Wellcome Collection, leads collections management, digital, and development. Formerly at Royal Museums Greenwich and Derby Museums, he managed major preservation projects. His expertise with complex collections makes him a key advisor for ºìÐÓÊÓƵ.
