The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh warmly welcomes the amended guidance provided by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence on Antibiotic Prophylaxis Against Infective Endocarditis.

Published: 15 October 2024

This is a very positive development. Whilst the recommendations for people undergoing dental procedures hasn’t changed, the amendments offer greater information for those who use this clinical guidance for certain high-risk groups and those who require special consideration for non-routine care. This will make the guidance easier for dentists to follow and provide additional reassurance for patients.
