We are thrilled to announce the launch of theÌýRoyal College of Surgeons of EdinburghÌý2024/25ÌýSurgical Skills CompetitionÌý—Ìýan extraordinary opportunity for you toÌýskill up and stand out.Ìý
This competition is open to students from all medical schools across the UK,ÌýwhetherÌýyou’reÌýin your first year or your last.ÌýIfÌýyou’reÌýthinking about a career in surgery orÌýjustÌýinterested in adding another event to your portfolio, this isÌýa great opportunity. No experience in surgery is necessary toÌýparticipate!ÌýWe want you to have fun and learn some new skills in the process.ÌýHere is a sneak preview of what to expect:Ìý
What to Expect:Ìý
- Online Quiz:ÌýAfter you register, you will be sent an online quiz. The top 5 scoring participants from each medical school will move onto the next round.Ìý
- Skills Kit Video Round:ÌýIf you moved onto the next round, youÌýwill be sent a skills kit. We will ask you toÌýperform three skills (you will have time to practise). You will video yourself doing these and send them in. Your videos will be scored byÌýCollegeÌýmarkers. The top scoreÌýfrom each medical school will move onto the final. We will also award a trophy to the top scoring medical school!Ìý
- Grand Final:ÌýYou’veÌýregistered,Ìýyou’veÌýgotten a top score on the quiz and top score on your suturing skills in your own medical school – nowÌýit’sÌýtime to compete against other medical schools! IfÌýyou’veÌýscored the highest at your medical school in the video round, you will be invited to Edinburgh to compete in the Grand Final. This is aÌýone-dayÌýevent on Saturday 15 March 2025. You will travel to Edinburgh the Friday evening before, have a dinner with peers from other medical schools, and then get ready to compete on Saturday! ºìÐÓÊÓƵ covers the cost of travel and accommodation.
