Nominations are invited for this key opportunity for the opinion of our Trainee membership to influence College policy in the future on a wide range of issues including training, education, assessment and future service delivery. The Trainee member of Council also co-chairs the Trainee Committee during their term of office.ÌýÌý

BackgroundÌý

At its November 2010 meeting, College Council approved the proposal to have a Trainee member of Council.ÌýÌýThis decision followed wide consultation on the best way toÌýfacilitateÌýthe input of the College’s affiliated trainees to key College activities, including training,ÌýeducationÌýand assessment.Ìý

Period of OfficeÌý

The successful candidateÌýshall serve onÌýCouncil forÌýtheÌýperiodÌýfromÌý15ÌýNovemberÌý2024Ìýto NovemberÌý2026, demitting office at the AGM in that year.ÌýÌýThe Trainee member will have full voting rights on Council and will share equal responsibility with ordinary Council membersÌýwith the exception ofÌýTrusteeship, and hence election of Office-Bearers.Ìý

Eligibility to Stand for ElectionÌý

Any candidate wishing to stand for election must:Ìý

  • Be UK-based, affiliated to the Edinburgh College and be in good standing.Ìý
  • Be a holder of the MRCS or FRCS, the latter of which must have been gained within the last 2 years.Ìý
  • Be at least at ST3 (or equivalent if in an academic programme)Ìý
  • Have a proposer and seconder, both of whom should be eligible to vote in this election (see below for criteria).
  • Provide supporting documentation from his/her Training Director and employer grantingÌýappropriate leaveÌýor circumstance to fulfil the commitments of this role.Ìý

The Trainee member of Council will normally beÌýpermittedÌýto remain on Council for up to 6 months after their CCT/CST dateÌýprovided thatÌýthis does not exceed the 2-year term.ÌýÌýShould a Trainee member be unable to completeÌýtheirÌý2-year term then a new election processÌýshallÌýbeÌýinitiated.Ìý

Eligibility to Vote in the ElectionÌý

All UK-based MRCS holders affiliated to this College and/or UK-based Fellows of this College who have gained their FRCS within the last 2 years and who are still holdersÌýof a Trainee number, are eligible to vote.ÌýÌýBeing in good standing with the College is a pre-requisite of eligibility.Ìý

Timeline

  • The deadline for receipt ofÌýcandidate nominationÌýforms is 16:00 BST onÌýFriday 5 July 2024.
  • The deadline for receipt ofÌýcandidate statementsÌýis 16:00 BST onÌýMondayÌý29 July 2024.

  • Candidate ballot forms and candidate statements will be issued to the electorate onÌýMonday 5 August 2024.
  • The deadline for return of ballot papers isÌý16:00 BST onÌýFriday 30 August 2024.
  • The announcement of the successful candidate will be made onÌýFriday 6 September 2024.
