ºìÐÓÊÓƵ & Medtronic Student Surgical Skills Competition Grand Final

Published: 13 March 2025

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, in partnership with Medtronic, is proud to announce the finalists for the 2024/25 Surgical Skills Competition, taking place on Saturday 15 March 2025. This annual event offers medical students from across the UK an opportunity to showcase their surgical talents and engage in friendly competition.

Competition Overview

The competition unfolds in the following stages:

  1. Online Quiz: Participants begin with an online quiz, testing their foundational knowledge in surgery. The top five scorers from each medical school advance to the next round.

  2.  Skills Kit Video Submission: Advancing students receive a skills kit and are tasked with performing three suturing techniques on a banana. They record their performances and submit the videos for evaluation. The highest scorer from each medical school earns a spot in the Grand Final.

  3. Grand Final: Finalists are invited to Edinburgh for a one-day event where they will compete in various surgical tasks. ºìÐÓÊÓƵ covers travel and accommodation expenses, ensuring an inclusive and memorable experience for all participants.

After rigorous assessments, the top-performing students from each participating medical school have been selected as this year’s finalists. These individuals have demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication throughout the competition, and we can’t wait to welcome them to the Grand Final!
