More than 1300 people are already employed in the sector, working across almost 80 companies and plans are in place to build on these solid foundations and unlock new opportunities and attract further investment.

Minister Sir Chris Bryant said: “The North East has a strong and growing space sector, contributing over ?100 million to the UK economy every year and providing a range of high-quality jobs across the region.

“It was fantastic to visit the site of the Space Skills and Technology Centre, which will soon conduct research into satellite technology to improve connectivity and prevent disruption to the National Grid, as well as provide education and training to the highly skilled space workforce of the future.”

NESST is more than just a facility; it’s a sign of commitment to the future of the UK space sector.
